5 Ways to Save Money on Your Electric Bill

READ

Every month, like clockwork, the bills come in. One of the most prominent of these is always the electric bill. If you’re budget conscious, or saving for that dream vacation to Barbados – you’re well aware that every dollar counts. In that vein, we’ve decided to come up with 5 suggestions to help you save money on your electric bill.

Use LED Lights

This method is by far the easiest and most cost-effective way to cut back on your electric bill. The truth is that just about everyone is aware of this, but not everyone acts on the information (myself included). Energy efficient LED bulbs are everywhere, so there is no need to go to a specialty store and purchase them. Switching your incandescent bulbs to LED bulbs can have a noticeable impact on your energy consumption. Richard Wilson, Sustainability Manager of IKEA Australia says that “LED lights use 85% less energy than incandescent bulbs, produce better light quality, have a lower environmental impact, and a 20-year lifespan.”

Install Talius Rollshutters

Talius Rollshutters stands as a great way to slash your electric bill. The initial cost of installation isn’t prohibitive, and the savings are evident from the get-go. Energy used for heating and cooling of most households account for 63% of total energy consumption*.

With this in mind, the insulation provided by Talius rollshutters can be used to cool homes during the summer, and warm them in the winter. This significantly reduces the reliance on energy guzzling heating and cooling methods like heaters and air conditioning units. As an added benefit, when rollshutters are installed some insurance providers will also offer discounts to your annual premium due to the hindrance that rollshutters offer against crimes of opportunity.

Consider Solar Panels

This option isn’t for everyone because of the of the high cost of the initial installation. Coupled with the maintenance costs it can take a while before you get past the initial investment – sometimes several years. However, once that period has passed, the savings from solar panels can be as much as 25-50% of your energy bill. This is definitely not a quick fix but it worth considering for the long term.

Install Inductions Hobs

Swapping glass or ceramic cook tops for induction hobs in the kitchen can lead to savings on your power bill. The best induction hobs are 60% faster in cooking time and use 40% less energy. Induction hobs transfer heat directly to the pot, as opposed to heating the hob, and surrounding air, which translates to minimal wasted energy.

Skip the Dryer

Here’s a fun fact: Dryers account for 12% of the yearly energy usage for the average household. Some may view using a clothesline as pretty old fashioned – it is, I’m not going to dispute this but the savings are real when opting against heavy use of a dryer.

We hope that you found some value in this article and we helped you to save some money in upcoming electric bill. Thanks for reading!
